Carolina viveu em diferentes cidades e países, mas houve algo que sempre a acompanhou: o gosto pelo desenho.
Formada em arquitetura, frequenta atualmente o último ano do Mestrado de Desenho na FBAUL, tendo especial interesse por ilustração e desenho científico. Vem às Conversas falar sobre o seu percurso e trabalho recente.
Carolina has lived in different cities and countries, but there was always something following her: the passion for drawing.
Graduated in Architecture, she is now attending the last year of the Master in Drawing at FBAUL (Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon), with particular interest in illustration and scientific illustration. She comes to Conversas to talk about her path and recent work.
Conversa
Uma conversa sobre o seu percurso profissional e o desenho.
Desenhar pode ser uma ferramenta de trabalho, um meio para pensar, comunicar e ilustrar uma ideia. Estas diferentes abordagens são exploradas enquanto arquiteta e atualmente enquanto aluna do Mestrado de Desenho na FBAUL.
Com especial enfoque em Desenho Científico e Ilustração, Carolina mostrou os seus desenhos, falou sobre os processos de trabalho destas duas vertentes e como ambas se entrecruzam.
A talk about her professional path and drawing.
Drawing can be a work tool, a way of thinking, a way to communicate or to ilustrate an idea.
All these different approaches are explored as an architect and currently as a student of the Master in Drawing at FBAUL.
With a special focus on Illustration and Scientific drawing, Carolina showed her drawings and her work process in these two strands and how they intersect each other.

O Fábio gosta de construir imagens e de andar de bicicleta. Ele vem falar de fotografia e dos motivos que o levaram a pedalar cerca de 1500 km entre a Aústria, República Checa, Alemanha, Chile e Argentina
Fábio likes to build images and to ride the bicycle. He comes to talk about photography and the reasons that took him to ride about 1500 km between Austria, The Czech Republic, Germany, Chile and Argentina.
Conversa
Quando aprendi a andar de bicicleta o meu tio disse-me “para aprender tens que cair muitas vezes”. Eu comecei a cair de propósito.
Na Conversa contei como me levantava cada vez que caía nessas viagens a pedal que me levaram a pensar tantos sítios diferentes. Muitas vezes subi, então contei também como desci. Contei como cheguei e como parti. Como conheci e esqueci. Falei e ouvi.
When I learned how to ride a bicycle my uncle told me “to learn you have to fall several times”. I started falling on purpose.
In my talk I told how I got up each time I fell in those pedal journeys that started me thinking about so many different places. Many times I went up and so I also told how I came down. I told how I arrived and how I left. How I met and how I forgot. How I spoke and how I heard.

Sérgio Fernandes, 1985 Sobralinho.
Pintor pela FBAUL, foi a São Paulo ver como era a vida do outro lado do oceano onde fez uma pós-graduação em poéticas visuais.
Em São Paulo apaixonou-se por imagens, por andar perdido pela rua e pelo ato da observação (com tempo) das coisas.
Descobriu também que não podia viver longe do mar e voltou.
Vai ao mar sempre que pode, ao surf e à pesca e vai ao atelier todos os dias.
Sérgio Fernandes, 1985 Sobralinho.
Graduated in painting at FBAUL (Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon), Sérgio went to São Paulo to see how was life in the other side of the ocean, where he did a post graduation in visual poetics.
In São Paulo he fell in love with images, with wandering through the streets, and with the act of observing things (with time).
He also found out that he couldn't live away from the sea, and so he came back.
Whenever he can he goes to the sea, to surf and fish, and he goes to his studio every day.
Conversa
Inconscientemente toda a Conversa acabou por se realizar em torno do olhar e do processo de trabalho. O olhar demorado das coisas, o olhar inocente, mas atento, do mundo e de como essa experiência da observação é transposta para o trabalho de pintura.
Tudo começou com uma estadia de 1 ano em São Paulo onde se apaixonou por imagens e por andar perdido pela rua. Foi em São Paulo que se apercebeu que tinha tempo para compreender as coisas que o rodeavam (que andavam a uma velocidade caótica) e para entender a sua relação de ser no mundo.
Toda essa experiência foi levada naturalmente para a Pintura, onde, quando volta para Lisboa para estar mais perto do mar, começa a estudar realmente a teoria da cor, da luz e do vazio.
O processo de trabalho alterou-se, ficou mais demorado e de certa maneira mais natural.
Obra da "inspiração" talvez.

Unconsciously, the whole talk came out to be around seeing and the working process. The lingering look at things, the innocent but watchful look at the world and how that experience is taken to the painting process.
It all started with an one year stay at São Paulo where he fall in love with images and wandering through streets. It was there he realized that he had the time to understand the things that surrounded him (which where in constant move) and to understand his relation of being in the world.
All this experience was naturally taken to Painting, when he returns to Lisbon to be closer to the sea, and starts studying the color, light and emptiness theories.
The work process was altered, got longer and in a way more natural.
Inspiration work maybe… or maybe it was the tides.
