Design
Nasceu na ex-RFA mas cedo se mudou para Portugal, antes do muro cair. Licenciou-se em design industrial pela ESAD das Caldas da Rainha em 2010. Desde então dedica-se a desenvolver projetos multidisciplinares, envolvendo pesquisa em áreas como a microbiologia, tendo já exibido em várias exposições. Simultaneamente é responsável pela estratégia e design da VICARA, uma marca de design focada em produtos exploratórios.
Born in West Germany but soon moved to Portugal, before the wall fell. In 2010 graduated in industrial design in ESAD from Caldas da Rainha, Ever since he has been developing multidisciplinary projects, involving research in areas such as microbiology, having already exhibited in various shows. Simultaneously he is responsible for the strategy and design for VICARA, a design brand focused on explorative projects.
O designer Paulo Sellmayer mostrou alguns dos seus trabalhos, que foram escolhidos segundo duas palavras-chave muito presentes nos seus projetos. Serendipidade e subversão. A primeira surge como um neologismo da palavra inglesa serendipidity, e é sobretudo uma abordagem ao fazer, na procura de alcançar resultados surpreendentes é preciso que o processo dite o caminho. A segunda palavra, subversão, aparece como uma forma de potenciar a criatividade, onde contrariar o status quo e o comummente aceite é muitas vezes necessário para se apresentar projetos realmente disruptivos.
The designer Paulo Sellmayer showed some of his works, which were chosen according to two key words, very present in his projects. Serendipity and subversion. The first one emerges as a neologism of the English word serendipidity reflecting an approach to the process of “making” in the search for surprising results in which the process dictates the path. The second word subversion emerges as a form of generating creativity in which the opposition to the status, commonly accepted, is necessary to present disruptive projects.
Rita Cortes
Design
A Rita nasceu em Castelo Branco e é designer de equipamento. Depois de um estágio em Washington, decidiu voltar para Portugal e tornar-se carpinteira.
Rita was born in Castelo Branco and she’s a product designer. After an internship in Washington she decided to go back to Portugal and become a carpenter.
O projeto d ‘A Carpinteira’ mostrou-nos como uma designer, depois de ter trabalhado para empresas de gadgets e móveis de luxo, se voltou para um trabalho que recupera as artes manuais, através de um mestre carpinteiro. Faz restyling de móveis e aprende a fazer cascos (estruturas de sofás).
The project ‘A Carpinteira’ (the female carpenter) showed us how a designer, after working for gadgets and luxury furniture companies, returned to a work which recovers the craftsmanship through a carpenter master. She makes restyling of old furniture and learns how to build the sofas structure.

Landscape architecture
O Sebastião é arquiteto paisagista, colabora com ateliers de arquitetura paisagista e é cofundador de uma associação de projetos auto propostos. Acredita que a paisagem se revela no cruzamento entre áreas e suportes distintos como o projeto, o vídeo, a fotografia, etc. na procura de soluções para habitar o território.
Sebastião is a landscape architect. He works with landscape architecture studios and is co-founder of a self-proposed projects association. He believes that landscape reveals itself at the crossroads between different areas such as design, video, photography, etc. in the pursuit for solutions to inhabit the territory.
O projeto Paisagem como Oportunidade surge da investigação da tese de mestrado onde se propõe a compreender como pode a realidade contemporânea, as suas contingências e potencialidades ser matérias sugestivas de projeto. Inversamente como pode também o projeto ser uma resposta às questões e dificuldades que o contexto em que vivemos nos obriga. Paisagem como um campo de forças ou palimpsesto de sinais. Projeto como meio de criar oportunidades no tempo. O caso do Bairro Informal de pescadores da Cova do Vapor na Trafaria.
The project Landscape as an Opportunity arises as a master’s thesis research which aims to understand how the contemporary reality, its contingencies and potential can be suggestive materials of the project. Conversely how can the project be a response to questions and difficulties that the context in which we live requires from. Landscape as a force field or palimpsest of signs. Project as a means to create opportunities in time. The case of the Informal fishermen settlement of Cova do Vapor in Trafaria, Lisboa.
